Climate change is now recognised as the most serious environmental problem we face. Floods, storms and droughts - here and across the world - show how vulnerable we are to climate extremes and how high the costs can be.

Climate change is now inevitable. To slow down the process, and to avoid the worst effects, we need to act now to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The government's Energy White Paper, which gives details of their latest energy policy, has set a target of reducing harmful emissions by 60 percent between 1990 and 2050.
