The tenant has passed away – what do I need to do?

If you are the joint tenant with the person who has died, or a close family member, you may be able to take on the tenancy. This is called a succession. There are criteria that need to be met before someone can succeed to a tenancy. If the tenant who has passed away was living alone and you are a relative who is clearing out the property, we will give you time to do this but the rent will need to be paid out of the deceased person’s estate.
