Press Release
Release Date: 1st September, 2009.
As one of the only projects to survive from the national projects programme - funded by the then ODPM back in 2002 as part of the e-Gov programme - DigiTV is now a misnomer, since we also publish on mobile phones and other platforms; it is clearly time to move on.
Looking Local is the name of our portal on digital interactive TV, mobile phones and other platforms and was chosen by our local government partners to reflect the type of content and services the public can find. And it does that very well; Looking Local pulls together a range of local services and has the scope to bring in further relevant local services easily.
Looking Local continues to be owned and run by Kirklees Council, developing in line with public sector's demands, remits and mandates. A new area of expansion Looking Local is working on is in the environmental information and services realm, helping people understand the challenge, calculate their carbon footprint and get tips to make their homes, cars and lives more environmentally friendly. We hope this will help our local government partners meet some of the national indicators mandated to them by the CLG.
The name DigiTV continually needed to be clarified due to it's similarity to DiTV, DTT, Digiboxes, digital switchover and others. This new branding intends to eradicate any issues and focuses on what the service does on an increasing number of platforms.
